Default KJ gears into XJ?

Will 4.10 gears from a KJ fit in my XJ? I have the 29 spline 8.25 and d30lp and am unsure of the front? Also plan on doing the disc brake mod at the same time.

Rear should be no issue I am not sure on the front , Also it is never recommended to use used gears.

... You have an 8.25 and a D30LP but am unsure of the front... ?

I believe it is time for more reading. Either that or you own the only XJ with 3 Axles under it.

KJs have a dana 35 IFS front diff....so no, the gears will not work in a Dana 30 solid axle. rear 8.25 should be a direct swap.

Thanks and the "unsure of front" was about the KJ front axle.... saw somewhere it said it was a dana 30 with the axle converted but now know its a 35.

Yeah the D35 diff itself is stronger than the D30. but the issue is the IFS component. D30 is plenty strong for a front axle for mild stuff. I've never so much as broken a shaft in one. Always carry spares anyway though lol

Slight correction to a previous post. Kj's have a D30a
In the front. This is a D30 but in an aluminum case.
It requires different lockers than the standard d30, so I would assume gears sets are slightly different also.
Not sure if this helps.

see I knew it was an aluminum diff, but have always read 35 and figured they made a 35 IFS....oh well, not like I've been under enough liberties to actually see lol.

Is the 30a IFS a low pinion? I would assume so.

I have wheeled extensively, in a modified 2004 KJ. The D30a can grenade, if locked, and the front tires leave the ground, and you are on the gas when they re-engage. That being said, this has not happened to most of us, as long as you're careful.
Companies like www.jeepinbyal.com sell steel replacement housings to strengthen that weak link and allow for lower gearing as well.
