to keep the cat or not?
So going through other posts and trying to figure out what I want for exhaust im still up in the air. I was thinking of just cutting muffler off and putting a glass pack but now idk if I want to cut the cat off too, im in Montana so no need for a cat should I just cut it off and put a glasspack on there?

What exactly are you planning to do with this?
Is the stock exhaust shot?
I can go ahead and tell you that you'll hate listening to a glasspack all the time. Not to mention I'll hate you for making me listen to it.

prepare to be harassed endlessly... there is a forum rule thingy that you are not supposed to talk about cutting out your cat because of legality issues and blahblah...

Oh for gods sake. There's no laws against killing a cat in Montana.
If you want it to sounds good go find yourself a welded Thrush muffler. They're the same thing as a Flow Master and sound just as good.
Make sure you keep the tail pipe all the way out the back or you'll want to shoot yourself while driving down a long stretch of road.

Even if Montana doesn't have law regarding catalytic converters, you are still bound by federal law because your XJ has the capability to travel state to state.
Federal law as stated above prohibits the removal of a catalytic converter except to be replaced by a comparable unit.
While some people in the thread my think nothing of ignoring federal law, you can incur a very large fine if you are caught running without a CC even in Montana.
