junkyard lifting?

What would I need to lift my xj about 4-6 inches. I can buy some parts but am on a strict budget. Any thoughts

If you're goint to lift it that much Dont cheap out on half *** parts. A couple inches with a budget lift is fine using a bastard pack from an s10 but I say do it right if you want that much lift

mrshaft696 Jun 22, 2015 06:52 PM

yeah unless you find a jeep with a 6" lift in the yard your not gonna get there...

Leafs are easy, coils and spacers are easy, but the control arms etc are your obstacle....

What are you trying to do with your jeep? Wheel it or keep it a mall crawler? That will tell what you can lift it with

Well I'm a mild Wheeler and we have some mellow trails. What my previous rig before this was a 94 f150 2in. Body lift 3" suspension lift 4wd 4.9L and loved that thing so something similar. (I'm no extreme rock crawling guy) more for mudding and mild wheeling

Also I should state THIS IS NOT AN ON ROAD JEEP.

Well stock, you should already be out wheeling that f150

The problem with a junkyard lift is the coils for the front will be from a f150 and ride rough. And the rear will be a bastard pack which is hit and miss on ride. And with a 4 inch plus lift you need a sye,Longer shocks, longer brake lines and longer e brake cables.

I k ow f150 coils will ride rough but hows the flex on that

andrewmp6 Jun 23, 2015 05:44 AM

With that stiff of a spring rate on a light weight jeep its not going to flex that good i bet.

Bingo.

I've taken my stock 92 places I'd never take a longer-wheelbase rig. If you're on "mellow" trails & aren't tackling serious rocks, and you're looking at a junkyard lift, there's no legitimate reason to go more than 3". Really very likely that you wouldnt need any lift beyond pucks and AAL. Cut-n-fold, and a set of decent 31"s will likely handle more than your F150 would've ever dreamed of.

I can see the writing on the wall with what the OP plans on doing for an "Off Road Only Jeep" plan on getting exactly what you pay for and the early demise of the XJ.
