Junkyard axle that will bolt right up with limited slip?
I'm planning to regear in februrary to 4.88's. I'm gonna hate paying so much in labor to have someone do it and still not get a LSD but theyre so expensive. Right now I have a c 8.25 29 spline that has 3.55's. This is my DD probably for a few more years and I drive it everywhere so I dont want to put a locker in it until I can afford a selectable one. My old explorer had the 8.8 and came stock with an LSD. I would go try and find one of those in the jy but they were spring under and id hate to try and weld on the spring perches and get them crooked and mess up my springs. Any axles that I can probably find in the junkyard that will handle 4.88 gears and already have an LSD and bolt up pretty easy?
Also... If I do find another axle, would it be best to put my 8.25 up front in place of my 30 or is that a no no?

If your doing an axle swap on a xj with an axle that didn't come off a xj, your gonna have to some modifications lol. Weld new leaf perches and shock mounts. I guess if your doing 4.88s you must plan on some 35s lol and remember too your gonna have to find some way of making a parking brake work too

No specific model... And ONLY a cherokee axle will bolt up... Period...
Find a used axle that someones already geared and locked on CL from a cherokee...
Or buy a 8.8 and tnt' truss for the 8.8 already setup for xj's... Simple weld on cant screw it up... And its pretty cheap...

TNT is an after market manufacturer...and you do not need to install a truss to use a Ford 8.8" axle in your rig.
A new set of anti-wrap perches and shock mounts are generally all that's needed.
If your donor axle does not already have the companion flange installed then you'll need that as well.

You could buy little tin ones off ebay for $10 I guess but dont recommend it...
The flange on the explorer 8.8 is the wrong one... Its for a 1330 joint... Need a new one or one off a ranger driveshaft that is 1310...

if you're already prepared to re-gear, just spend the extra $250 and buy the LSD and have it installed at the same time. The 8.25 isn't a bad axle at all with 35s and a LSD only. now if you have the D35 or if you're gonna get a full time locker on 35s, then i would think about swapping. might start breaking some C clips with that set up
