There is nothing that is a direct swap that is worth the time and effort. TJ Rubi D44 but it's low pinion and basically a D30 with a D44 center section. Not much of an upgrade and most people want a grand for them. If you have fab skills pretty much anything can be made to work.

35s or smaller the dana 30 can be built up to handle them.Next step up is a dana 44 which is good tell 37s built up and then a dana 60 is good tell a 40 built up.Like said bolt in would be a tj rubicon dana 44 but its not worth the swap.If you can weld then a 1980 or newer fsj jeep wagoneer dana 44 is close to stock width but its a 6 lug axle. You can maybe change it to the xj bolt pattern or you can swap in a isuzu rodeo dana 44 rear its 6 lug and takes welding tho.

I am running 35's right now. I have a spare 8.25 that im getting ready to to regear, lock, do disc convertion, and get stronger shafts. Was wondering if could pick up d30 to do the same for a reasonable cost or if there was something out there that was an immediate ugrade at low cost. ..fab skills(welding, metal work) aren't there for me....so d30 it is....thanks guys

To beef up the housing will take welding but is worth it,You can get a kit like http://www.synergymfg.com/Synergy-Je...l#.VZ0WpfnupTk The tubes are sleeves you weld inside the housing to make the axle tubes thicker. The c gussets weld on top the axle c on the end to make them stronger. And the other thing you weld on the lower control arm mount to keep it from breaking off.

So far I still have my stock D30/Chy 8.25 (29 spline) with Detroit Lockers in both 4.56 gear. I run 33's and a set of 35's on Beadlocks at down to 5 PSI and don't go crazy on the skinny peddle so far no problems, but do carry spare axles with me.
For any larger tires I would go with D60 front and rear that is why I plan on staying with the 35's.

The big problem is the xj is a drivers side drop,Finding a dana 44 like that is hard today the 70s fords used it and very very few jeeps used it.But now if you go up to 1 tons a ford dana 60 85-04 can be easier to find but the 99 and newer used a different bolt pattern then the old ones.
