102" Steep Whip. Maybe not the "best" but one of my favorites. It's tough and will take a lot of abuse.

The 102 whip is nice.. But its too big for me. Trail riding, use a firestick, its great for small range to mid range and doesnt flail around. If you wanna talk to people miles and miles away you need the 102 and proper mounting and tuning, plus some other things help. There is a guy who wrote up a whole article on cb's and stuff. Its in the write-ups section here.

Definitely a firestick. Make sure you put it on a spring. I didn't with my first one and it snapped from getting snagged on tree.

Wilson, with a spring on it, 4 ft length, fiberglass but not very flexible without the spring. Tennis ball dampens knocks on the door. Mounting is well backed and braced on door interior. Works well for me, make sure you get a long lead if your going to mount rearward. This Wilson had an rf tuner built into the cable rather than the antenna tip. Ive run Cobra 19 and 24 type units with good results on both. You can mount the antenna for better reception but mine is out of the way and mostly used for talk on the trail. I have exchanged up to 6 mile out on the road. 5th Wheel Truck Stops have well stocked accessories stores and good CB pricing perhaps a truck stop near you has similar. I've seen couple of recommends for fire stick in this thread. Those are excellent also. My son-in-law uses a mag base for his ariel, I've seen it get knocked off by branches couple times.

The 4' firestik 2 is the one to get in my opinion. That's what most people use. Works good and I haven't broken it yet. My last antenna was a cheap one and it broke when I hit a tree but I wasn't surprised because I broke my window also. I think my firestik has seen about as much abuse and it's still holding up fine and its lasted longer than my last one.

Firestik is great for the price. Most would agree Wilson is a step above but for trail chat either is great. Whips and certain long lengths are prohibited on some official trails so if that matters to you look into it. Personally, most of my off-roading is trespassing so it really doesn't matter for me haha.

I internally broke firestik on the trail. it just to stiff for wheeling. It bent the hell out of my bracket to. Wilson Flex is hand down the way to go for fiberglass whip. Now Im a 4ft BROWNING Tram BR-140 antenna which performs far better with my amped cobra 20LX.

But for the Cobra 19, go Wilson Flex and dont look back

Mr. White, did you just quote me and forget to add in some snide remarks or something? lol

i have a 102" fiberglass whip.
no spring, that's what makes it a weapon. mine doesn't flash around nearly as much as what people with no experience may think.
matterafact, i rarely hear it hit the back of my jeep.
i have it mounted to my rear bumper, right in front of my tail light, drivers side.
sure i have to flex it to the side every time i open and close my hatch, but that's nothing compared to if it was mounted out the side somewhere.

i can tuck the top into my rack like a bow, and it still transmits and receives well enough in close proximity.

i would never get a smaller firestick. they are too rigid and will just be a pain having to replace it every time it breaks.

Woah 102" fiberglass? I thought the huge ones were always stainless. The fiberglass has to do a nice job protecting it. Where did you get it and for how much? I mounted mine in the exact same spot as you, great minds think alike.
