Jeep Scout Dana 44 Rear
So..drove a bit to get this axle after being told it was an Xj 44 that the guy had planned on putting in Hus blazer.
upon picking it up I notice the bolt pattern looks big, and that the shock mounts look super weird.
get it home..strip it and find the bom. Turns out its a 74-75 scout 44 rear.
Confirmed 373 gears, looks decent..58.5ish wide
Would it be worth building?
I was thinking truss, 488s (or deeper), an chromos, disc brakes, and some new mounts.
Ideas?

What im trying to decide is where I can get parts for this *****.
Im wanting to go with chromos, an ARB, Eaton, OX, or a Zip. 488s, and disc brakes.
Found a thread on pirate where a dude took a scout II 44 and put it in his CJ...he used 2 xj dana 44 short shafts, xj 44 backing plates for the discs and came out fine. Not sure if this is viable though.

Hope you didn't pay much for it. Got a buddy that's a scout freak that I ride with up on LC and I could have got that axle for 50-75 bucks complete. They are tough axles and the tubes are plenty thick. Travis Wison runs one in his ECORs XJ with an OX locker and it holds his 37s fine. Any D44 locker that's 30 spline will work. It's the JK versions that take an odd ball one and the early 19 spline versions.

dont need em. if i was running a 44 rear it would have an upper and lower truss from backing plate to backing plate, alloys, and a full case locker.
not everyone needs to build crazy, but you can break anything.

Reassuring that you say that cause I followed your build on naxja..inspiration for sure.
I'd truely love a 60 combo but $ just isn't there right now.
plus I dd this thing, don't wanna be stupid wide.
I dislike having to run spacers on it..but I guess that's OK since I can convert the pattern while I widen it with adapters.
Plans for it are:
Full case selectable locker (thoughts??)
488s
Truss
Discs (what will fit this thing?)

id like to see a pic of the retainer plate. if its anything like an xj 44, you can do the explorer discs or crown vic discs (bigger), the pattern is close on those, just needs massaging with a dremel.
