Three different years mashed together

The jeep would drive and shift gears smoothly Never would have any issues with it. I was cruising down the freeway going to work when all of a sudden my transmission was slipping in and out of gear, slipped my way in and out of gear off the freeway and into a circle k. I parked and went to try put in in reverse, nothing, put it in first also nothing.. No rpm changes when placed in gear just acts like its in park the entire time, it will move freely in nuetral and stays locked in park or whatever. fluid level good and clean good filter as well. Shift linkage is all in place, no my transfer case is not in neutral not sure what the issue is can't figure it out.. :/

could it be? I've been kind of debating between if it's that or the torque converter, (I did hear some noises before the jeep took a dump) just might tear into and replace em both.. I've dropped transmissions but never dug into one, just wondering how hard would it be to replace a pump, or would it be better to graba trans from a junkyard?

If it were me I would find the cause first, then if in fact it is the trans get one from a JY.
