Default Intake...AEM or AFE

Before anyone starts to bash saying that intakes are not worth the money....know that I am a firm believer in them if you get all the pieces to complete the air/exhaust puzzle. I currently have APN header, high flow cat, flowmaster muffler. On order I have bored out throttle body and 703 injectors. All I lack is a better intake. I have tried drop in filters in the past and find them worthless horsepower wise but convenient for cleaning purposes.

With this being said, I am torn between the AFE Stage 2

AND the AEM Brute Force intake.

I really like the heat sheild on the AFE intake but like the intake tube of the AFE Brute force. Does anyone here have experience with either? If so, can you give you opinion on it please. I am purchasing something by lunch time today. Thanks in advance.

The AFE Stage 2 responds to supporting mods better than the AEM but I have heard that the AEM is more resilient than the AFE.

My vote is the AFE.

That is why im soo torn. I read that AEM has A LOT of R&D on their products and tend to have slightly better gains (minimal...but better). BUT have also read great results from AFE on other vehicles.

Thanks for the input.

I was actually really disappointed in Volant on this one. They usually have great intake with covered filters, but theirs is just flat out cheesy for the xj.

In the end I would go with your gut. That usually works.

The price is $220-250 I like the look of a snorkel, and know it would give me optimum "cool air" but Im a 2wd mallcrawler so its bad enough I have no front differential haha...when I convert to 4x4 I will def get a snorkel.

I have the AFE, and that is what I would recommend out of the 2.

....after looking into all the other options. Why would I buy it if I didnt do some research first? Honestly, I think I would save my money if I was doing it again and just keep the stock one.

Like i said the exhaust/intake is all a puzzle. an intake alone wont net much gains, nor will just a muffler. Yes it might net a minimal amount, but with an intake, bored TB, injectors, header, high flow cat, and exhaust, its all working together.

So if I already got straight glasspacks, would I benefit from a cold air intake?

You will benefit as much as everyone else it depends if you think you can feel a 4hp difference. You will hear a difference and your engine might seem to run smoother but people will argue to the end of the earth on whether it's worth it or not.

AEM!!
http://www.jpmagazine.com/shop4parts...des/index.html

AEM Dryflow FilterStated benefits:
99.4 percent efficiency (ISO-5011 standard). Can hold a lot of dust before clogging up.Flows almost as good as a cotton gauze filter by making the pleats deep for more surface area.Since it doesn't require oil, there is no chance of over-oiling it when it is cleaned. With no wire mesh, if you drop or hit the filter, there is no metal to potentially damage the filter media.
