Installing a ZJ Fan Clutch on a 4.0L XJ?
Does installing a radiator fan clutch on an XJ with 4.0L require radiator removal? Seems a bit tight in there to me. Does the clutch move the fan closer to the radiator?
Anyone done this mod?

There's two different ZJ clutches. IIRC, the HD clutch requires a little extra work. The standard ZJ clutch should be a direct replacement.

its tight but it fits smaller hands is a plus,I don't have that luxury so longer wrench and cut knuckles were on my agenda.

I did the ZJ fan clutch in my '91. I had to put the shroud in and then bolt up the fan but wasn't too bad. Mine doesn't make that much more noise and my XJ almost never goes over 200 anymore. I'm glad I did it and it was only $1 more than the stock fan clutch at my local AZ.

I installed the regular one in my 97. Just loosen the rad to move it forward when installing the clutch. I couldn't tell if it moved the fan itself any. The clutch to rad clearance is drastically different though. I have very little clearance between the two. But my Jeep now runs just under 210… of course mine was missing the fan too, so just adding the fan helped.

No need to move or remove the radiator. You'll be pulling the fan and shroud at the same time.
What you want is the standard ZJ clutch. That's the upgrade from the XJ fan clutch. You don't want the HD ZJ clutch. That may not fit.
But if you're thinking the fan might be too close to the rad, check your motor mounts. They may be shot.

I assume I just need to stop by my local NAPA, but I'm not seeing the 272310 on the NAPA Web site. Any know if the part number changed or was discontinued?
