Default inline 6 to V8

I have a 1997 jeep cherokee 2 door manual... The ******* before did a motor swap and hack jobbed the **** out of it.. it over heats there random wires everywhere.. just a mess.. but all the other parts and the price made it worth the headache. but what looking to do is swap the motor... what would be my best bet? to just put in another inline 6 or since i'm pulling the motor anyway should i go for something bigger/better like a v8.. let me know what you guys think would be best/ easiest/ cheapest.. thanks

I heard instances of people putting a 350 in a cherokee, but you'll have work on your hands. No clue if anyone here has done it though.

Novak has everything you need. It's not an easy swap unless you are pretty good and have good shop and tools. The guy I bought mine from did it. I am enjoying having the power of a V-8.

I did the traditional small block swap in mine. I built my mounts because swap mounts from anywhere were blood money. Have time, patience, fab skills and money. These don't happen quickly, small block or LS1. Check my build for any ideas.

What about stroking out the I6? Ever thought about that route?

go ahead an find your old carb'd V8 and fiddle with the float bowls in off camber positions. Lemme come take that 4.0 off your hands.

If you're gonna have to work with the wiring anyways.. why not just fix the wiring in your xj? Pull a harness from a same year junker and splice it into yours.

Even if you swap a V8 in, you won't be starting from scratch. I have the TPI 350 in my Comanche and spliced the original and Camaro wiring harnesses together. No donor will have all the wires you need for the swap and you will have to retain parts of the factory harness for things like lights, starter, wiper motor, and the like. That said, no V8 swap is going to be cheap either and is very time consuming if you build everything yourself (like I did).
