so I'm new to this go anywhere Jeep thing. I used to be in the go fast Ford culture, but I learned the hard way (traumatic brain injury) that going anywhere slowly is just as fun, and won't leave my kids without a dad. So I traded for an 85 Cherokee. The only problem is I can't figure out what the problem is starting it. I'm trying to hide a button in the center console with a lock on it (this Jeep has been stolen) so I put a new starter, solenoid, wire and ignition module.

Welcome to CF. Thats an awfully clean 85 XJ there. For starters, what engine do you have in your XJ? And is it carb or did someone convert to EFI already.

That old man there is pretty clean.
I hope I'm not the only one wanting to see some action pics of it.
I do have a rather good buzz going atm but I didn't see where you said what the problem was?
So what exactly is the problem while starting?
Or is the issue trying to find a spot for the button?

Thanks, my plans for this thing are a mile long. It's a 2.8 carb, and the problem is that nothing happens when I push the button. I believe that I've gotten it hooked up right, my only real concern is that I don't know how it's all supposed to be connected. And I'm planning desert camo for paint, the fact is that I love this Jeep and I'm planning many things

Glad to hear it's back in business!
I feel ya on the plans, I'm doing another little build and have many myself.
I didn't use to like camo till I purchased my '91.
I thought it was hideous at first and had intended to change it but over time it did grow on me.
I was gonna redo it to either one of these patterns:
Perhaps they can be inspiration for you since I never got around to it.
