Info about turbo on 4.0L cherokee xj
So in the vendor section i saw a manifold for sale that allows you to run a turbo on an xj. What i want to know is how is it possible for you to put together a turbo set up on an xj for $1500 or less???
The manifold is $800 and a reliable turbo is $600??
Another thing i really need to know is what all is needed to run a turbo on a cherokee? The only write up i found cost $2500+ and there is alot of stuff that is not needed or alot of exspensive stuff.
So a list of things needed and stuff would be awsome thanks so much guys.

You could do it for around 1500 if you had experience with turbo set-ups to cut corners and you or friends with parts laying around that would be donated to the project. You cant just slap a turbo on it and run it.

Turbo and manifold are the most expensive parts. You also NEED management and a tune. Injectors, fuel pump, exhaust, all the plumbing, intercooler, oil lines for the turbo.
If you are trying to cheap out, your engine won't last very long. If you spend a little more and do it right the first time, it will be reliable. You are looking at around $1k for the rest of the stuff, the tune and management will probably be close to $600-800. The rest of the stuff is fairly cheap.
You really need to research turbos before you just pick one as well. Figure out your goal and then pick your turbo accordingly.

If you want a decent turbo that won't break the bank, I'd say you could go with a take-off turbo from a newer car that's been modified. Car's like the Cobalt SS-T, etc. don't make too much power stock so their turbos are almost always guaranteed to match up well with your power range.
The most expensive thing is always going to be your engine management.

^^Problem is gonna be exhaust flow.
Those turbos are coming off a much smaller motor, and therefore aren't meant to handle the flow if a 4.0, let sooner a boosted 4.0

Two words... compressor map. Google is your friend. There are all sorts of volumetric calculators on the web. Find out how much air gets actually displaced through your motor, and go from there. Once all of your variables are sorted out, you can match a turbo to your 4.0...
