I'm Confused, need help with hella 500 Driving Lights.
I'm looking into getting Hella 500 driving lights to mount on my XJ's roof. I have two questions. The first is, If I wanted 4 lights to mount on my roof should I get two kits like this: http://www.quadratec.com/products/97006_03.htm or should I get one of these and just add 2 more lights? And my second question is, Hella says that the driving lights must be hooked up to the high beams Does this mean the lights will only work when the high beams are on or does this mean that they will NOT turn on when the high beams on?

Thanks, that knocks one question out
Here's a wiring guide for the Lights, it might help a bit
Look at the diagram on the right side of the page, I wanted to put them in with a switch.

oh, sorry didn't really catch on to the other one until you mentioned it.
So should I just disregard the wiring that hooks up to the High/low beams?

The hella lights get the power from the high beams this is so that when the lights are switched on they are only on when the brights are on this makes it so they go off when you dim your lights so you dont blind everyone that passes you I personally like this setup unless the lights are for offroad only.

Like the other guy on the top said, can i just hook them up and not connect them to the high or low beams and use them when I want, the reason I want these is because I do like to go offroading a little but the main reason is I live in PA and we have an overabundance of deer and I don't feel like having my front end damaged by a stupid whitetail. I would prefer if I could just have my low beams on and have the ability to just switch the Hella's on and off with the included switch, because i kinda have a tendency to forget to turn off my high beams when I turn my car off and when I switch my lights back on when i'm driving i blind some unfortunate driver so I try to leave my high beams off

I just hooked up a pair of hella 500 FF. What I did was first see what color wires were for what Yellow wire went from relay to the middle of the switch. The black one ran to the lights themselves. I grounded the lights like they said. Then the red wire I ran to the battery like they said. Finally the long green wire with the fuse I hooked up to my cigarette lighter I have 2 one is a 12v that has power whenever and the other one has power only when on acc or car is turned on. So from the back of the switch its Green on top, Yellow in the middle, and Blue grounded right under switch. and I spliced the green wire to the positive of the cigarette lighter than had to be turned on just so I dont kill my battery. I know I have bad instructions but if you need help let me know mine work great!!!

if you run the green wire with fuse grom switch to your 12v cigarette outlet its the same as to battery except no long wire to battery mine is short but make sure u have the fuse in the middle

yea I didnt figure it out for a while and I was like all it needs a 12v wire to connect to. so either hook it up to the wire that the jeep needs to be on or wire that turns on lights whenever. So its personal preferance

Ok, I think I know how to do the wiring now. Thanks for all your help. So, just to clear things up, give me a yes or no answer, DO I HAVE TO HOOK THE WIRES TO THE HEADLIGHTS? And can you just leave that wire disconnected and turn the lights on when ever you want?
Oh one last thing, how did you run your wiring from lights (not the harness just the wires from the lights themselves) the one thing I cannot figure out is how I would run those wires into the engine compartment and I dont feel like drilling a hole to do it, any suggestions?

no, you don't, just wire them to power and a switch like anything else that runs off 12v
if I was putting those lights on my xj, I would just drill a hole in the roof that the wire bundle would fit through and run them along the inside of the A pillar, and into the engine bay from there, as long as you seal the hole well it won't cause any problems.
