Default Identifying rear axel and transfer case

Im going to be getting my first Cherokee this weekend (hopefully) and i want to make sure that the rear axel is an 8.25 and the transfer case is an NP231. Is there any way to identify the rear axel on the jeep we look at other than the rear diff cover, as well as the transfer case, easiest way to identify the tc?

there is a tag on the back of the tc with the number on it
for the 8.25 look for 3" axle tubes and the bottom of the diff is flat

If the tcase has a full time option, its a 242... if not, its a 231

8.25 has a larger 3" tube diameter. And a flat bottom on the diff. Unlike the round d35 bottom
