Default I need to shim my rear axle/pinion, but what shim size?

Hi. I have to get my rear drive shaft angled better. Right now I have a 3" lift, with a 1" TC drop.

The vibes are annoying as hell. So to shim the rear a little better, what angle do you use? I've read there are several sizes by inch, but how can I calculate the right amount?

Eventually I'm going to do a H/T conversion, but for now, the rear pinion angle adjustment will be fine.

Thanks.

JR

You're going to have to get an angle finder to determine the correct amount of shim-age needed.

$12 at Lowes.

What condition are your u-joints in? That could be the problem.

Agreed, check those u joints. You might also want to check your front steering components. Ive heard of folks thinking they have rear shaft vibes when its actually their track bar rattling around.

Do you have an SYE? Shims are used when you install a SYE and need to set the pinion at the same angle as the driveshaft. With a traditional rear shaft and a slip yoke, the two ends should be parallel with each other, no shim.

Probably need to do more diagnosing

Why do a H&T when you can buy an SYE so cheap like the RR ones.

Do it right the first time and don't look back.

How is using a HnT "doing it wrong"?

Full SYE's have a stronger mainshaft.

U joints are all new. Front end is good. Here is my present rear drive line angle
Don't mind the tank, I'm swapping out the pump and doing some undercoating.

I would pull out the front driveshaft and eliminate that first

Your front axle is more likely to need the angle corrected, especially with the tcase drop

I have adjustable LCA's so that's a possibility. I might have them too far forward.

I'll give that a try this week. Once I finish the fuel pump, I'll give it a test run.

Thanks,
