GA
The most I've seen in the south is 70. That holds true for TN, SC & AL.

limit is 70 here in indiana. truth is you don’t want to go much faster than that. given the current condition of the road surface - there’s a good chance you’d end up in a flaming barrel roll if you hit some of those holes at 80 mph.

Everything is 65 mph in CA and no one obeys. At 80 mph, the cops wont bother you. Anything over that and they will get you. But there is always so much traffic it is nearly impossible to go that fast unless its the middle of the night. I got up to 35 mph on the highway this morning for about 500ft. Then back to stop and go for the rest of my drive.

Not only is my gas mileage better, I cleaned out whatever gunk was in the engine from my long trip that might have affected my smog test - passed with flying colors today and lots of good margins.
Last night, topped off the gas tank - drove 30.1 miles (10 miles city; 20 miles highway @ 70mph)- topped it off again (all level grounds) = 1.51 gallons used.

I tow my XJ & guarantee you it does NOT save fuel.
I gotcha. Really depends on what locale you are in

Up in Denver and down in FL, we have mostly 75mph speed limits on the highways. Cruise anything slower and you will basically run in the right lane.

It's not that big of a deal with a well set-up XJ. I have good brakes, aggressive compound on the brake pads, tight steering. 35"s and 4.88's with an AX15 puts me over 3k rpm though, and my fuel economy takes a severe hit at anything over like 55mph but I don't drive that much any more

Anyway, back to taking about how to make a completely squared body vehicle into something more efficient

Innnnnnteresting... A quick-disco front ram duct could be an interesting addition to my list of goodies. Spring loaded would not be good, imo, on trails though.
lots of state talk here, I'm only gonna chime in with the following: I have been in several states (east and west and midwest,) where speedlimit is 80mph. Texas and Utah come to mind, and Florida... Even eastern Washington has an 80mph area... Western not so much... I think the whole coast is locked to 60mph.
Personally, right now I am averaging around 20mpg, I really need to do a true test. I get just over 400 miles per tank of gas.

Default FYI

One of the members here inquired if my brother would consider making the air dam for him. It was initially a one-off for me, you know, a brother thing. I called my brother today and asked him if he would. He told me that he would consider it if others - say 5 people - were interested. He doesn't know what it would cost etc. but would provide detail if enough became interested. Not trying to sell anything here. Just a notification to see if some are in fact interested so my brother can decide to do it or not. Thanks all.
BTW - my brother's name is Jim Valdez and he is a race car driver and one of the very few who designed and built his own race car. He's around on the Internet.
