Question HP D30 front axle?

quick one
did a little digging and I'm pretty sure
are all 91-95 model xj's stock with high pinion dana 30's?
if not, how can you tell without opening up the housing
I want to buy an xj with the hp already in so I dont have to swap it down the road.
thanks

I dont know what that would look like
seeing as I've never looked at a low pinion to compare the two

91-99 came stock with the HP D30. 00-01's had the LP. Easiest way to tell the difference is to simply look at where the pinion is at in relation to the differential. A high pinion D30 will have the pinion sitting just above center on the rear side of the differential. A low pinion will have it sitting very close to the bottom.
Low pinion on the left, high pinion on the right:

be aware of the vac disco and small u-joints.

96 - 99 are all large joint, non disco and high pinion.

but you can either get alloy axle shafts, or swap in shafts from a 96-99 to get the bigger joints If you get one that has the small ones, you wont have to swap the whole axle.

true, and the housing on the vac disco is beefier due to the cast upper control arm mount.

but yeah, 91 - 95 has the smaller u-joints on the 231 equipped models, as far as i know. but the abs equipped with the 242 (limited) models have the larger joints and always non disco...

beware of the 89 and down, as they use a bolt on brake caliper mount, and your caliper won't bolt up unless you swap the knuckles.
