How to "waterproof" XJ
Theres a lot of creek crossings and stuff like that on trails near me and I have a 4.5" lift on 31s. I'm sure that the water will go through the door seams on a lot of them. That's not the focus of my question though. I was wondering what all electrical stuff I should waterproof under the hood and how to do it. I already have a hood snorkel that came with it, but I want to make sure everything else would be okay. I'm pretty new at XJs and offroading in general so any tips would be greatly appreciated

I have seen mods where guys put the alternator up where the AC compressor is. Of course no AC but might be something you would be interested in.

I put dielectric grease on all of my connectors and spark plug wires, sealed up the computer with silicone, the alternator I have has a lifetime warranty so not worried other than the fact it could leave me stranded. Also extend the vent hoses for the axles transmission and t-case, and make sure there are no leaks, along with a cowl intake or a snorkel that should do a good job of keeping it water resistant.

There are a few things you can do to make it through the water. First, don't hit is hard and fast. Just creep through it. The strong splash from the wheels will drive water into everything. Second, vent the bottom of your distributor to a clean source of air so it won't draw a vacuum with cold water hits it. Then put your distributor cap inside a surgeons glove and run the spark plug wires through the fingers. Then spray the inside of your distributor cap with WD40 and install the cap. Pull the bottom of the glove down below the base of the distributor. Seal all connections including spark plug wires with dielectric grease
