Default How unsafe is this?

I have an 8.25 29 spline under my 89 and its locked with 35s. How unsafe do you think this is? I'm just wondering how long I have on it. Before I swapped the JK 44 into her.

Thats hardly unsafe. That's a fantastic rear axle setup, the 8.25 can take a lot. The (29 spline) 8.25 is known for being comparable to the D44. Some people don't like the weak drum brakes, thats about it.

Your fine, what is the gearing?

Only thing to be worried about is a shaft breaking / bending a flange if your Really rough on it. You'd have the same issue with a D44...

Just go grab you a spare set shafts and have fun wheeling

H*ll the 8.25 is about the same strength as the D44 you'll be fine. Wheel it till it breaks then replace it or after a few yrs. just sell the D44 to someone who just has to have one.

Pretty much what others have said. Going to a Jk 44 is a waste in my op. 35 with stock gearing sucks on the road and is hard on the tranny.

I run 36's on the same axle locked with no problems at all.

Like said keep what you got or if your going to swap it 8.8 or go full width with a 14 bolt. The jk 44s people think they are made of gold the way they price them lately.I could get a junkyard explorer 8.8 for 50 bucks buy the swap it kit a little welding and its bolt in.

Depending on the results of my next wheeling trip the 29th. It's no joke.

But it has nothing to do with road driving. You would burn up a tranny in no time with 307's.

Well I broke the Powertrax No-slip and had to cut it out with the plasma cutter. I threw the spider gears back in and left it open. After all of that I decided to get rid of the vacuum disconnect and throw in some TJ shafts with spicer joints. Oh and I threw the steering stabilizer in the dumpster.
