Default how tall is too tall rims?

Ive got some 17's
theyre from a wrangler
can i throw 33 inch tires on them and effectively rock crawl at 14psi?
or is it worth it to buy some 15 inch rims and get more use out of the side of the tire
this link will show the picture if you want a visual

Less rim.. More side wall. You want to stick with a 15" rim. Up until you get to 38s+. At 17s thats alot of rim and not alot of side wall my buddy has 33s on 18s and it looks like a street tire, plus you'd destroy the rim with rock rash

Sell those 17s on Craigslist and you should be able to get 15s with cash to spare!

15's and 16's would be best for a 33.

You should look for a minimum ratio of at least 2 to 1 tire height to rim diameter. More sidewall is generally better because you don't have to air down as low to flex the sidewalls. If you are really talking about rock crawling in a 4000 lb rig 10 - 12 psi would be a good range with 33 inch tires on 15 inch rims, 14 may not flex enough.

15" tires tend to be cheaper aswell. I find people selling stock 15" wheels for like $50 a set all day long on craigslist in my area. Only trouble i see with going that route is backspacing so possible rubbing on lca's depending on tire size.

What size tires are on the rims right now? Also, what year wrangler did they come off of?
