Default How to set up shocks and bump stops

Hey guys new to the forum had a couple of questions on how to figure out what size or travel for front shocks and then also I don't quite understand the whole bumps top set up?? And do I need limiting straps??
I have a 2000 xj with around 6" of lift has a b lee 3 link set up that has an unbelievable amount of travel which makes the set up seem more complicated..
I also have those adjustable coil over spacers up front and shackle relocates in the rear..I will b running 33x12.50x15
Thanks for any help can't wait to finish jeep been doing suspension upgrades now closing on two months

Bump stops limit the up travel so a wheel don't smash in to the body.Limiting straps do the opposite they limit the downward travel. On the shocks read this http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/su...re-for-shocks/

Also 6" of lift and 33s? That seems like really high COG compared to tire size.

I think yes you need both limiting straps and good bump stops. As far as what size... measure, measure, measure.

Basically you want to set everything up the way you want it without bump stops or shocks in place. Once it's set up then flex it out as much as you can without the tire rubbing the fender or anything binding. Then measure how much bump stop you need, front and rear.

Once the bump stops are set up then flex it again. When the bump stops make contact it will force the opposite side down. Keep flexing until the other side binds, then measure for the limit strap and shock lengths.

All said and done, the bump stops and limit straps should be the only things limiting your suspension travel. Not the tires hitting the fenders, the shocks maxing out, or the suspension/steering binding.

You should be able to spin the tire when your front is cut all the way and fully stuffed into the fender well.
