Default How much lift before a transfer case drop is needed?

92 Cherokee Auto

How much lift can you install before it becomes necessary to drop the tcase and everything else? I've read 4.5"-5" is fine. 6+" is asking for trouble.

Any input is welcomed, I'm not looking to spend a fortune as this is a cheap toy.

3" is hit or miss. Over 3" you will most likely need one.

Do what I wish I did a long time ago: don't mess with droppin your transfer case. Just save up a little longer and go ahead and get a sye and drive shaft when you lift your jeep. Done. Lift it 8" and never have to worry about it again.

The older the cherokee is the more prone to being lift friendly IE not needing a tc drop until 4-5"s but every jeep is different. Also this isn't fab, more of a chat section submission

Gave my friend a brand new 1" budget lift for his 99, vibrations were worse then some of the 4"lifts we've done in the past (think his universals may have been bad too). We've found each & every XJ reacted differently. I'd assume you could do up to 3" or so without really needing them.
My 2001 XJ has about 5.5" or so of lift & I didn't install the TC drop, I only got vibs between 45 to 55 mph.

Go SYE ASAP, one of the best mods when lifting.
