How to build a cheap, lightweight roof rack/basket
i need a roof rack for my extra stuff like spare and whatnot, as im currently living in my jeep and all that important stuff makes it a little cramped. problems are A i dont have much money and B i dont have the mount for it. i also dont have access to the tools or skills required to weld anything. so, fellow jeepers, any tips for a solution?

got a hitch? get a camper!!....or an open trailer.....i converted an old motorcycle trailer to a 5W x 9L x 2H (sides) to haul tings & junk
or get a bunch of milk crates/shopping carts & a bunch of zip ties & figure suttin out for mounting
regardless, i think storage for your cargo should be the least of your concerns....sell some of this cargo for $$....& how do access the internet in ur jeep/home? u have wi-fi too??
no offense, but u might need re-prioritize

Sounds like it may be needed, but its impossible to judge from our seats.
Free internet at the library.
Anyway...
Great idea! Hell, you could keep the junk in the truck and use the trailer for sleep.
I've often wanted to do cross country adventures for long terms many times.

Does your xj have any sort of a roof rack?
You can pick up furring (1x3 pine) pretty cheap, any of the home improvemant places will cut them to size for free.
That, some zip ties and maybe a row of milk crates around the outside (and a tarp to cover it) would get you going.
Seems like you could put it together for around $25 so long as you got the milk crates "at the right price".
You'd need the stock roof rack to attach it to tho.
Sorry for your situation.
