How big of a lift do i need to fix 33s if i trim the fenders?

How big of a lift do i need to fix 33s if i trim the fenders?
I have a stock 1996 jeep xj country and im looking to see what i need to fit 33in tires. I plan to cut and fold fenders and trim as needed. I dont want a crazy high lift but would like it fit a larger tire. Is it possible to put 33in tires with 2in of lift if i do some trimming? would i need different rims and how wide could i go?
