I have a 3inch lifr on y 99 cherokee with an ax15 maual. i dont want to loose the ground clearence and go with a tcase drop. i have bad vibes at 59 mph. i need to do something about this. i have been in contact with Iron Rock Offroad to get their Hack n Tap kit with the refurbished front driveshaft.
The problem i have is that i have the ax15 manual trans. my stock rear driveshaft is 29in
My front driveshaft is 31.5in.
Iron Rock Offroad has had great customer servise in trying to find out if their kit with their refurbished driveshaft will work with my transmition. they say that their refuirbished shafts are 27.75 inches. compressed i am assuming. so they said that to make it work for my set up i should just not cut as much off of the shaft.
I would like my driveshaft to be set up so it can work with my current 3" lift as well as a 6.5" lift in the future.
Does this all seam like it should work to you guys?
and also. how many degree shims should i get for my jeep with the 3" lift and 30" tires?
THANKS!
here is a pic of my current stock drive shaft with no SYE or tcase drop. and the red line shows exactly where i measured from.

if you want something to work with both just get a sye and a front DS for the rear and that will work for 3" and 6.5", but your not running that shaft at 6.5" without mad vibrations and broken parts.

That shaft will be too short. also if you cut the output shafter long it gets pretty difficult as the end is hardened.
something sounds a little odd though. The ax15 is shorter, so your rear shaft is longer, and your front should be shorter. where are you measuring the front shaft from. A stock auto xj front shaft should be 30" collapsed if I remember correctly. I would say that it sounds like you need a front shaft like the one you already have but the ax15 front shaft should be shorter.

Xj fronts won't be long enough, but 5.2 zj front shafts might work. They are a few inches longer

Best thing to do is do the h&t, then measure for a new shaft and go from there

I just put my front ds in the back, it was too long so i cut the tc shaft per instructions "Iron Rock Offroad" hack n tap. The front DOES fit.
And it looks like he has a SYE already.

I think I got these numbers off Pirate4x4 a while ago, sorry don't remember the guy. These are the front drive shaft lengths if it helps at all. I would just slap the H&T kit on it then find the front drive shaft in the junkyard and slap it on. This'll save a lot of time and hassle for the drive shaft and will have the SYE on correctly.

Not what I would do. That shaft is hardened out there like I said before. How much do they get for the shaft? I know a couple good sits on eBay doing shafts for around $200. That's what you shoul be doing.
Don't skimp now, it will only cost you more later

If you cut the shaft out farther, you will have issues with the sealing in the rear. The HnT kit is made to be cut so far back and use the given yoke so that the sealing surface is in the correct location. Not to mention cutting a hardened rod isn't fun at all...
