Hitch mounted spare tire, where to put plate?
I robbed the idea from someone here, can't remember their name, but I built a fold down spare tire carrier for my pile so I could get it out of the inside. But I'm going to make a change, the lip where the ball mounts, I'm going to chop that off flush, trim it down some and weld it vertical back to the hitch adapter so I can put my shackle on it.
But where do I need to put the license plate? can't mount it to the bumper corner because of the reverse lights I installed, I could move it to the inside of them, but that looks goofy to me. I thought about building a bracket to mount to the inside of the spare, but haven't made my mind up yet. Give me some ideas. Maybe up on the rack? I don't know if the LEO's would think that was legal tho.

I think most people just put them on the hatch to the right or left of the tire. Like above the word "Heep"
Get yourself something like this:

Extend the wiring inside the hatch. Drill a hole, rubber grommet, some split loom, and little RTV. Come out behind it and wire the light up.
Don't forget that you third brake light is now covered too.
Turbo X_J solution looks like it will take care of both.

I looked at those brackets to mount on the hatch, but I wasn't wanting to drill any holes in the hatch I may not like this setup and may take it off. I don't have a 3rd brakelight anyway that's a sticker that's on the glass. lol. I may hang it under one of the reverse lights, maybe it won't hang down too far to get bent up.

So maybe try this for awhile. Maybe put a license plate bracket on with some double sided tape. Go the boneyard as see if you can score the license plate light harness. I know in my '00 it is a short harness that can be removed pretty easy. Little splicing, run a short piece of split loom, you get the idea. Don't like it put back in your original license plate light harness, peel off the license plate bracket, little adhesive remover, and thinking you are back to where you are now.
