Morimoto mini's would be a wise investment. The full-sized projectors are just so damn huge for such a marginal optical improvement, but I could have easily used the "JNC" alignment method if I wanted to.

I am almost done with the retrofit - I have just been dragging my *** on painting the housings. Will try to get that done tomorrow so I can re-assemble the projectors and trim the shrouds to fit.

The Gatling gun shrouds look really sick BTW. Glad I went with them over the E55.

The Trucklites are nice, but I dont like the optics that much on them compared to a high end projector. Like I said, 3100 lumens from a single D2s bulb is incredibly bright for the power.

El oh el. I always love these threads...

Every forum I go to, there is always some troll that insists on using hids in a non-hid projector housing, who will fight to the death on why it is ok, making excuses on why his setup is "OK".

It seems in this thread, the troll also thinks that "blue" hids are bright. LOL.

Anything over 6k is utterly useless, the higher the color temp, the less lumens. The higher the color temp, the less useful the light is in rain/fog/snow.

Hid bulbs in halogen housings is just....rude and dangerous. You double/triple the lumen output of a halogen bulb, and put this in the face of everyone driving towards you. You also prob get pissed when someone drives at you with the high beams on, which is still no where near the lumen output of hids.

IMO, no projector=do not use them on the road.

Leave the 'drop in' kits to the hondas.

The Morimoto 6.0 are only $120.00 Where did you find them for $270.00?

Quote: If I were going to spend close to $300 on headlights, I would probably look into those $300 Trucklites. But, I really like the cut-off of these projectors. Just a thought.

I've also not seen any pictures of the light output of the Trucklites... but I figure with how popular they are it can't be bad.
There is a pic in a thread with a TL in one side and a hid in the other. The hid is way brighter and the light pattern is way better.

Just got done modding the cutoff shield and lenses. I ended up NOT using the TSX-R clear lenses that I ordered because either my FX projectors already had FX-R lenses, or the stock lens is just super clear.

I should have taken pics, but it looked equally clear as the TSX-R lens, but the cutoff is much sharper with the stock FX lenses when I have it mounted to the projector.

I ended up using 2 spacer gaskets, plus bent the shield down very slightly until the cutoff sharpened up. Finally got it exactly where I want it after about an hour of messing with different combos.

And finished! I think it looks great. The Philips 85122+ bulbs are a bit too yellow for me though. The pictures make the bulbs and cutoff look whiter than they are. In reality, the light is daylight warm white and the cutoff is really intense blue. I think I am going to swap to 5K bulbs as soon as I can afford them and keep the Philips ones as backups.

I really want to paint the housings tomorrow, but freezing temps + humidity (snow) make for terrible painting conditions...

Also, how did you guys get the old sealant out of the channel on the headlight housing? I have tried chipping away with a razor blade and a screw driver but didnt really have much success.

Might try some carb cleaner on it to see if I can soften it up.

Gas should work. Your cutoff looks good. Mine is still jacked up waiting for my bulb clips to get here.

I don't mean to hate but any vehicle that throws the amount of light out that the OPs does will get a bottle through the windshield some day.

Quote: Lol no thanks, I'll just pick up a set of hid bulbs (sans ballasts) from the local shop for $30. I did these as a budget build.. no need to make improvements as they are already pretty bad *** for a backup vehicle (better than my 370z's oem hids)
Quote: Thanks for help. It looks like I would be in it for at least $130. $50 for the HID light kit. another $50 for the 2.5 projectors and at least $30 for a cheap headlight housing. I really want to build by own, but not pay anymore than $150. I already have the wiring harness.

Snevys offroad (a vendor on pirate) has them for $99 per pair is what he quoted me. a few bucks less than Olympus and Steve is good to deal with.

Do you see the cutoff? It's very comparable to a STOCK HID SETUP. I don't usually jump to call people stupid, but a good HID setup that's aimed right isn't going to **** ANYBODY off and it's ultimately safer..

Cut off or not hes lighting up the streets like a cop and his spotlights. Where I live, deputy barny doesn't run the streets.

Dude... look at the picture with the light output from his STOCK 370Z. It's the same damn thing. If it's not pointing in peoples eyes, it doesn't matter... you're ridiculous.. a cop isn't going to pull you over because the light you're shining AT THE ROAD is too bright... rofl

Any new car with hids are at least that bright.

Don't try to tell him that. Where he lives, cops run around pulling over soccer moms because the HIDs on their Town & Country are too bright.
