Ya, some people can get out of control with it. I am doing from the trim line just below the door handles down to my chewed up rocker panels. Lol. I'm doing a 'bought, then REbuilt' kind of deal

I think most guys start small but then mess up, so they do a little more to cover it up....and the cycle continues. But I've met others who just want it all lined and that's what makes them happy. To each his own I guess.

I herculined the bottom 12 inches or so of my doors, then an inch or so around the wheel wells. I really like the way it looks. As far as messing up then doing more: tape everything off well, I spent a long time with masking tape to ensure I got nice smooth lines. The odd spots are, unfortunately, rust seeping through because I didn't clean up the rust well enough. I just respray it with Rustoleum Bedliner every so often to cover that up lol.

So, I finished the job, with the exception of door jams, but I am doing a matte paint in there. Herculiner will tear up your bare skin in shorts! Here is a preliminary picture while the liner is still wet. I'll do a write up and post more pictures tomorrow.

You got this from AutoZone correct? It looks like maybe a pint size can, how many cans did it take and how many coats did you do??

How are you guys liking the Herculiner job? I am thinking about hitting my roof and rocker panels. Would you do it again?

My roof, hood, ORF quarter armor, Hooligan fenders and rockers are done with Herculiner. It has held up to the sun and elements for about 21 months with no signs of wear/weathering. I hit it about 3-4 times a year with ArmorAll for UV protection. I did the D pillars(hatch corners) last night due to finding a tree with the driver's side corner last weekend.
I would definitely do it again I did the hood and roof initially due to chalky paint and spiderwebbing.

Ok, I'm sold. Thanks Jamison, you rig looks bada$$...pretty much the same look I am going for. I hear prep work is key when applying Herculiner in order for it to adhere properly. Any tips or tricks you learned that might help me in this process?

Palm sander, 120grit paper, scuff really good, no need to go to bare metal.
Wipe twice with acetone on a clean rag.
Two medium coats of Herculiner, let it dry about 4 hours between each coat, overnight if its below 60 degrees.
Spray it down with Armor All every 3 months or so for the UV protection

I've done quite a few hurculiner jobs. Several truck beds, lower quarters on trucks, Suzuki Samurai tub, the tub of my XJ. Those were just the roll on applications. I've sprayed the roll on Rustoleum liner on some bumpers and a headache rack. Prep is key.

My clear coat is chipping on most of my XJ (seems everyone I know with a post 1990 XJ that's forrest green)…been thinking about spraying the entire thing in Duracoat…
