Default hello xj body flex

I recently got my first xj 91 when I picked it up it had stock wheels with 4.5 rc lift I just took it out in woods yesterday for the firs time and was amazed how well did with stock tires only complaint is seem to have a lot of body flex . Enough to pop the rear hatch and now it dosent want to close .? The only other off road toy I have had was a 92 yota and dont remember that much flex? is this just cause xj's are unibody?!! oh and havent been able to get hatch closed yet ? any info be great and thanks again . The floorboards are solid front and rear . but behind the seat in cargo area ia rusted ou and they removed the floor !

Yeah, for the most part its just the unibody, i beat the crap out of mine and have yet to permanantly twist the unibody, so for you to twist yours by just taking it out 1 time with stock tires is kinda unusual, it shouldnt be that easy. By the way, i see your from dayton, so am i

If you have no floor in the rear then you twisted the unibody. That is the reason your hatch wont close. Unibody means that the frame and body are one. If you have no floor then the frame will twist and screw everything up. You may have just ruined your XJ.

Doesnt close when on level ground? The unibodies dont generally twist, they just fatigue over time and crack.

Kinda like if you take a piece of sheet metal or paperclip and bend it back and forth so many times til it cracks.

like sam said it doesnt tend to bend unless EXTREME n i mean extreme stress is put on the body or you get into an accident or land on a rock again EXTREMELY hard.

Somewhat unrelated, but I knew a guy in high school that put a 401 in a Gremlin. At the drags popped both doors wide open coming out of the hole, yep parts car.

from what i understood of what you wrote... i would see about getting that hatch closed fully and the floor repair so you don't have all that cold air flowing in. Also other than maybe some strange mannerisms while on the road i don't see to big of a problem driving.
