mine did the same thing and i had to get in there and adjust the rod that opens and locks/unlocks it. Fairly easy to do once your in there looking at it.

The hole method works but it is pretty easy to remove the back hatch plastic interior and access iy thru that way. Just un clip the plastic piece that holds the "opening rod" for lack of better term. You just gotta move it enough to cause it to catch and unlatch. You should be able to see how far to move it by the different colors of the metal (at least for me it was easy) then secure the plastic clip in the correct spot, i wrapped the end of the rod in duct tape to hopefully prevent it from moving again.
