hack n tap for daily driver v SYE ?
currently at 3" and want to go up to 5" (or more). was wondering if anyone has done a hack n tap on their daily driver? i dont see the need to spend all that money on a sye with a custom shaft if a hack n tap does the same thing. iro has a nice package for a good price, has anyone done it? thanks

Haven't done it, haven't heard of a hack'n'tap actually breaking either. Just did a Google search to that effect and came up short... some guys wheel 'em pretty hard and they hold up.

i have searched alot recently too and havent found anything either, i figured that would be a common search. all the hack n taps that i know of are on straight trail rigs, my buddys who daily drive their jeeps swear by syes and tom woods shafts.

I've got over a year on that yoke with a stock XJ front shaft. I finally added 4° shims at the end of last year. Everything is butter smooth now! http://www.jeepforum.com/forum/f177/...l#post12484186 covers the initial install.

i run a hack n tap with 35s also and its held up for 2 years and 60K miles without a problem. i havent even had to retighten the bolt for it either. order the hack n tap thru Dirtboundoffroad.com its the same as IRO but use "CHEROKEEFORUM" as the promo and get 10% off. i also run a stock front ds in the rear without as problems.

I have a hack-n-tap on my 98' with 6.5" of lift, locked on 35's and haven't had any issues out of it at all. When the techs at 4WP shook the truck down, they said it had a little bit of play which can create some vibrations, but I haven't felt any yet, and I do plenty of highway driving. I double checked it, it has a little bit of play, but nothing to be concerned about if you ask me. I also wheel every weekend.

I daily drive my IRO hack n tap. But I removed the t case and measured each spline with a machinists ruler then wrap d it with tap and was extremely careful when cutting. To my own surprise I did a near perfect cut and have had no problems at all. I drive on the highway and town on a regular basis..

I just laid under my XJ, taped over the splines, drew a line where I wanted to cut, put the trans in neutral, and chopped it off with a cutting wheel. I dressed the edge of the output shaft with a file, center punched and drilled it out starting with a 3/16" or so. Tapping was what took the longest. Lots of oil, lots of cleaning the tap.

I ran my trans in either drive or reverse when I cut mine. Ensures a nice even cut. Been on there 2 years w/ 35"'s and I wheel the hell out if it. Never had an issue
