Default H233B axle

Has anyone put one of these axles into their xj? My friend and I are in the process of swapping one into his Nissan hardbody pickup. It comes stock with 4.37 gears and a LSD. The ring gear is 9.1" this thing is beefy but the only problems is it has 6 on 5.5 lug pattern

Those axles come in 90's Pathfinders and 1999-04 Xterras. I believe they are 33 spline also, but don't quote me on the spline count.

I had a 1994 Pathfinder SE-V6 4x4 before my Cherokee and it had that same rear axle, but with disc brakes and 4.6 gears, and I am sure it was a 33 spline. Or was it 31? Either was it was beefy as hell!

They are quite strong, but the biggest issue isn't the bolt pattern (besides, that's just a good excuse to do a Waggy 44 front at the same time) but rather the gear ratios. You'd have to regear it to match whatever the front is, and gears for that axle aren't cheap.

Came out of a 88 pathfinder haven't looked at it but according to my research it is supposed to be 31 spline. Not much aftermarket support so parts are very limited and expensive. this thing weighs almost 200lbs with no fluids or brakes attatched. I haven'tmeasured the width of it. It's in my buddy's garage so I'll give some more specs tomorrow. His truck is 2wd so front gears are not a problem for him, but definitely has some issues for a 4x4 swap

I've looked into it as I have an h233b sitting. the 31 spline ones from the early pathfinders and hard-bodies tend to snap shafts the 33 spline ones are a stout axle. and their are some options. ARB makes a locker or you can run a factory LSD. The other big issue is gear set up as there are no install kits for them but if your lucky you can find a chunk with 4:9s all ready installed and just run 4:88s to match. Over all they are a great axle i know a lot of guys running them locked with 35s and 0 issues.

it will be perfect for his little truck. probably 33s at the most. and his 4 cylinder doesnt put out that much power. would have got a waggy front 44 but it was at the jy one day and we came back the next day and it was gone

hey guys,
I own a nissan and run a company that specializes in nissan parts.
Just wanted to let you guys know that these axles hold up really well and we wonder why the axle shafts very rarely break.

if you search all of the nissan message boards and scour pirate you'll find 1 or 2 guys that have broken these things. I currently have the 31 spline pathfinder axle pushing 37's w 5.571 gears. 5.87 gears are also available.

if you guys need parts for these things, let me know
