Default Grinding noise from tanny/tcase

Had just finished putting jeep back together from doing a 4.5 inch lift. Installed sye kit myself. Took it on a couple test drive to see how it work and it went very well. Went to actually use it made it about 5 miles down the road doing 55mph and all the sudden I hear a grinding noise and notice I can no longer accelerate. Pushing the gas only increased the grinding. I tried all the gears seeing if I could get it moving again and eventually first worked. I made it into someone's driveway to turn around and it started grinding again which resulted in me not being able to move. Keep in mind this whole time I had it in 2wd. I tried going into 4hi and that didn't work and 4lo also didn't work... At first. Eventually I got it moving in 4lo so I just crawled the 5 miles home. Got it into the garage took it out of 4wd put it back in 2wd ( just to see if it would work) and it did move without grinding. I didn't try driving it again because I didn't want to deal with it again. I'm going to tear apart the tcase later today, but I'm just seeking help to what else would case this if I don't find something in the case or to explain what could have happened in the first place. Sorry for the length!

Hack'n'tap SYE or . . . uh, the other kind? Did you have to take the whole t-case apart, or did you just cut the shaft?

I actually took the whole thing apart. I had a problem with the it the first time apparently my buddy dropped a snap ring down in the planetary gear and didn't tell me about it. Ending up buying a used tcase and I the guy told me it was for a xj but I think it came from a Tj because I notice now the planetary gear wasn't flush with the ring gear it sits in. That's my guess
