Is this a good deal on a 4.2 Crank and connecting rods
I didn't win this but the guy that did was in Germany and so I got a second chance offer of $225 because the seller didn't want to ship it to Germany.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/181048598173 Just wanted to get some opinions on this before I pull the trigger. It's not often that this type of situation happens where you have time to think about the purchase without the pressure of having to buy before someone else! Thanks! |
Seems kind of steep. Got a complete engine for $35.

You got lucky. All the salvage yards here want no less than 150 an engine wether running or not. On our pricings down here, cranks are 75 and rods are 15 apiece. So if in clean condition then that's not too bad.
Down there the heat just beats the crap out of your engines. Up here the salt returns out vehicles back to big piles of Iron Oxide but our engines are still plentiful. Did a little trading with some guys in Texas years ago. I would bring down cheap engines and I would take back rust free cars. Just might start doing that again when I retire. |

Here is another good question I just thought of. What should I expect as far as machine work on a used crank, cost wise and what does it involve? If it's less than getting a new or rebuilt one I think I will pull the trigger on this.
I already have a set of connecting rods and will probably clean these up, remove the pistons and sell them on ebay. |

Sounds like a deal. Now if you live near the ocean like we do, the rust is just as bad. It's a year round and not just seasonal.
I'll take some body surface rust over frame rot anyday. Just ask your Michigan brothers. Got to go. Boxing day holiday up here and the wife wants to go shopping! |

I just sent the seller a question, would he be willing to sell just the crank for $100. We'll see... if not I will buy it all for $225 and try to sell the rods on ebay.
Thanks for the quick replies everyone! |

We agreed on $120 shipped for just the crank. I think that is a fair price considering shipping cost and the fact I don't have to hunt for an old motor and pull it myself. Hopefully it's in good condition.
