going bigger than 3
 

Major headache on thinking about lifts.I was all set on getting a 3 inch lift then I started thinking about it and how it wouldn't really fix my problem on my pumpkins hitting or rubbing.So in high sight I need a bigger lift but I know once you get to a certain level everything pretty much has to be modified on the 96-up XJ's.So I'm thinking either find a kit that's anywhere between 6in and 4 and a half inches for around 250 or under.or what I'm thinking Is I can buy some front coils between 6-4'5in and shackles for the rear which I don't have a clue on what size shackles I'd need.

So what is the biggest lift I can get without much more work then if I'd would've done a 3in lift

I basically only need coil springs between 4'5 and 6in long and what ever shackles I'd need for the coils

Anyone have any ideas on where I can either get coils and shackles or a kit for less then 250 that won't fall apart the first time I go out.I'll worry about shocks later.

Can anyone tell me what lift I need in my price range, kit or coils and shackles.

It would have been a waste of money if I got a 3in lift and time.

With a 4 inch lift your gonna need longer shocks longer brake lines and probably a sye kit also.The cheapest 3 inch lift i would use is zone off road but its 510 bucks tho.

If you go to a 4.5 lift or up you'll need longer control arms or control arm drop brackets, I'd just go long arms at that point. A lift isn't gonna make your diffs sit any higher either. You'll have to go with bigger tires. Once you go over a 35" tires you'll want to re gear for sure. For the rear if you did a 4.5 coils in the front you'd need roughly 4" shackles. For the better of the ride you'd want to get shackle relocations, you'll need longer shocks for sure. Youll need a t case drop kit if you do a 4.5 lift or a sye and driveshaft, same goes if you go taller in lift. In my opinion 4inch is a perfect size lift. No reason to go taller in my opinion unless your going only through mud. If your not wheelin don't worry about bump stops now but eventually you'll want to do steering upgrades like steering box, tie rod and drag link. A trac bar is gonna be a must for you as well. At 4.5 you can get away with the stock brake lines but it'd be smart to get longer ones. I hate to bust your bubble but it's a lot more little things then you'd think. The list is gonna add up quick along with the money.

first, a lift is not going to help your "pumpkins" at all. the tire size does that.

Okay tis thread is a definite fail. You are NEVER going to find a lift that hieght for that cheap. Also you need tires for "pumpkin" clearence. Okay, once you go over 3-3.5 is where you need control arms, sye/transfer case drop, longer brake lines and other stuff like that. And even the cheapest 3" lift that comes with everything you need is going to be over $250. Multiply your budget by 4 and you can run a decent 4.5" kit. If you only have that much to spend, either save until you can afford it, or just get a 2-2.5" spacer and shackle lift and find some jk shocks. That is about the only option for that budget

You need bigger tires to raise your "pumpkin" height... Not a higher lift.

Stay at 3" and dump that $250 into 35s.
I suggest checking Craigslist.

OP is not lifted right now. He wants to lift it. But he only wants to spend $250

Simple Solution, Spacers/ Shackle/ Shocks

To me, an XJ over 3" is a step in the wrong direction.

I'm been reading about lifts and what you need for the kinda wheeling you do.Everything I read says for mud, hills,ruts and the trails I do that a 3in lift and 33s is a prefect combo.Plus it will give me the added hight on my pumpkins that I need.I'll need to cut the fenders and cut/fold the rear fender wells unless someone in Lenoir city or near by wants to do it for me? I have a cut off wheel and blades if someone would do it for me.I'm still learning on all this but I'm about 80% sure that this is the set up I want to do.reading it was like it was meant for me lol.I do have a few questions on doing this lift such as When I cut my fender wells can I use my stock XJ flares or will I have to buy a different set? I need to do more reading on the bump stops like do I need them.Do I need a different set.do I need wheel spacers? This is stuff I'll be reading up on before I ordering which won't be till December so I have plenty of time. I'll be buying the fat bobs garage 3in lift Kit which Includes: Front: 3" Lift front coil springs. Longer shocks recommended with this lift. Rear: Shackles that are adjustable to 1.5" or 2". Includes all mounting hardware and bushings.I'll need to buy shocks

You'll have to customize the flair to fit after you cut the rear, you don't need wheel spacers but if you plan on running 33s on the stock wheels (I'm guessing they are) then you'll rub a little, offset wheels would help out and fix that. Plus it'll give you a wider stance if you want that. You don't NEED bumpstops but if you plan on wheeling and flexing then you would like to have them.
