gm 350 vs I6 stroker

Well ive got the suspension and tire/wheels i want on my XJ but now i just need more power. I was seriously considering the V8 swap but after some more research i have been seeing some people around the internet with some serious power coming from the I6. First off my jeep is an 88 xj 4.0. Its not the HO. 8" IRO longarm. custom 4 link in the rear. 37s". Im not really into the whole rock crawling thing more of a mudder, and i need more power for those 37's in deep mud. So i guess my question is What are some good mods for a I6 to get it around stock 350 power?

LOL Which stock 350? They go anywhere from 160HP to 315 or so and then of course the sky is the limit for modded ones.

350 gen II from a k5 blazer

I would take a stock 4.0 over a stock 350. They produce more torque then almost any 350 produced, and in my opinion torque is all that matters. Modded is a whole different story, if you are going to build a motor take a 350, abundance of parts, much cheaper to build, and a built 350 will produce much much more power then a built 4.0 for far less money.

I wouldnt take one from a k5. Its going to be carbed and uber gay. If you are going to do the swap go the whole nine yards and get a tuned port injected 350 from a 90's camaro. They are in abundance and on the cheap lately.

My dad had a K5 with a 350 and that thing had to be in low range to haul it's own *** around once it left the pavement.

Have you regeared yet????? Gearing can overcome lack of HP.

SuperGlue 03-28-2011 10:42 PM

If he is 4 linked, running 37's, and whatever else he has but hasnt geared yet, he should be slapped. lol!

If you regear it will make a world of difference. What axles are you running?

You are DD with stock gear and 37s, theres your problem. Your tires are using about 75% of the power just to turn a full circle. Course with 37s you'll need new axels F & R, because the ones you have can't really be geared low enough for those tires.

My K5 350 was injected, wasn't gay and definitely wasn't uber anything. About 370-380 hp, and 415-425 ft. lbs. That is my Blazer in my profile on the Z corners on the Moab Rim trail.
For reliable power the sbc V8 is the way to go.

+1

the Vortec 350s are beasts that get very decent mileage

when my I-6 finally eats it I am going to consider it also.
