Gm 14 bolt rear. Help!
 

Whats the difference and what is better?
A. Gm 14 bolt Corp rear axle
OR
B. Gm 14 bolt Corp duel rear axle
Which is better?
Differences?
Found a website they will custom build it to your specs. Help needed

The 14 bolt came in semi float and full float,On the width it came in 4 widths standard pickup,dually,van and cab and chassis.The semi float is crap you want a full float which will have a big hub sticking out the rear wheel with a cover full of bolts.The semi float looks like every other rear axle you know.On the 4 widths the standard pickup is 67.5 inches wide the dually rear end is wider at 72.3 the cab and chassis is 63.5 and the van is 70 the widest of them all.Something to read http://www.pirate4x4.com/tech/billavista/14b_bible/ and look at the picture on here http://www.fullsizechevy.com/forum/g...olt-ff-sf.html it shows what a semi float and full float look like.

What front axle are you running or planning to run?
14blt from a truck would be easy to locate and be best for spare parts.
You can disk brake swap the rear EASY with older 3/4ton front parts and shed a ton of weight.
I had a shaved 14bolt with chevy D60 in my Wrangler like this and it's a very simple axle to modify, lock and customize.

And they made the 14 bolt from the mid 70s to the late 90s so a ton of them out there.

I think up to mid 2000's. I pulled a 14 bolt from a 2002 school van

Shaving the bottom of the 14 bolt will gain you 1.5-2" of clearance on the diff depending how aggressive you are with the sawzall and grinder. :)


A good XJ combo would be a narrower Van / dually model and a waggy D44 front. Disk brake the rear to shave off 80+ lbs and grind away anything on the center section that is over kill for more weight savings.
If you weld the spiders for a home made spool, you can get a spare shaft, (anyone will do) cut the shaft off the flange, and use the flange on the passenger side when your not out wheeling so you don't tear up the tires. (or your yard :icon_redface: and piss the wife off(

I shaved mine into a "13" bolt and later when I got a diff ring, I fabbed up a skid for the diff that tied into the pinion guard. You could drag this diff over rocks and has some smashes into it that would normally crack or tear **** up. Torque arm with shackle to where the shaft joint is (and Hiem in that spot) is also golden to prevent sqwat and spring wrap.
