Default Gears gears and gears

I'm getting ready to order my gears. Originally i was going to go with 456's but now I'm thinking 488's. D30 front with a lock right going in it. Rear will be a C8.25. limited slip. The only thing that is holding me back on the 488 is my tire size right now 32" KM1. I will be going to a 33" or 35" tire but not for a least a few months. How bad will 488 be as a daily driver with 32" tires. I do dive high way and My top speed is only about 65 yes i no I'm a slow driver LOL.

Decide if your going 33s or 35s.
35s go with 488s (assuming you have an auto trans)
33s go 456s (again, assuming auto)

I had a 2000 cherokee I regeared to 4.56 it was an auto. I had 32x11.50s and I wish I would have went to 4.88's instead of the 4.56's. I saw 4.88 but a lot of the people on here that look at charts will tell you 4.56.

How bad would it to run 488s while running 33's? I dont want to have to re-gear if i decide to go to 35's

4.56 or 4.88s are fine with 32s. You may be unhappy once you go with the heavier tires because it will be great with the 32s. I loved 31s and 4.56. It was the best combo I ever ran on a mostly stock XJ.

I just switched to 4.88's for my 35's and honestly wish I could have gone deeper, so I say go with the 4.88's even on 33's. On 35's I'm only turning about 2250rpms @ 60mph, so I'd take a wild guess at around 2550 or so on 33's, shouldn't be an issue at all.

You guys all got it! With 35's and 4.88's I wish I could have gone deeper. The Jeep was most happy around 75-80 MPH. I think 4.88's and 35's would be perfect. Given the lack of options after that though you run them with 35's too.
The 4.0 is definitely more comfortable a little higher in the RPM range than stock while cruising. You can actually go up hill and pass people on the highway. I got better mileage too.

I dont think you will. check this out. www.grimmjeeper.com
With a 32" tall tire and 4.88's at 65 MPH puts you at 2498 RPM, at 70 mph 2690, compared to 2319 stock.
Thats what I would want anyway.
