Gearing question?
Hi, I have 99 xj with a 5.5 IRO lift and I plan on running 33's. This is my DD and I know I should regear. I have a d30 and c8.25. I heard 4.56 but I'm not sure.
Ps I drive alot!! |
I would think that for a DD 4:10 would be enough. is it an auto or stick? 4.0 or 2.5?

And where could I find cheap gears?
|
4.0 auto
|
Do you plan on going bigger tires in the future? If so your only gonna want to regard once, so go with 4.56. Otherwise 4.10s are perfect for 33"s!
|
Dont cheep out on gears man. And yeah if your sticking with 33"s it "should" be fine. unless you wana spin them on pavement...then go with 4:56 :p

I'm running 33's with 4:56's and it feels perfect.
|
I went with USA standards & people say they are made by Yukon just not bench spun of xxx amount of miles... that's what makes them "loud", but I can't here them over the tires! Lol no complaints, just remember the d30 will need the 3.73 carrier to install 4.10-4.56 gears
|
I also have the US standard gear set in my rear axle... no problems from mine. but I have a poly trans mount for compete for noises with.
In my opinion and others will disagree... But if you are going to spend the money to re-gear why make as little of a change as you can to get buy, its not cheaper, or less work... just less gearing lol. I would go 4.56's. I have 4.56's and 33's. feels great. 4.10's just don't seam worth all the work to me... |
X2

sounds like ill be going with 4.56s then. What else will I need? The 4.56 for the d30 and c8.25, also the 3.73 carrier in the d30. anything else?
also what companies? |
Randys ring & pinion. Your gonna need the master rebuild kits for both axles, but if you've never installed gears before your gonna want to have a shop install them!
