What's your thoughts? Im going to install a 44-60 combo on 37's so as im building these axles wondering about gears. I thought maybe 4.56 but is that wrong? Also I have an automatic.

4.56 will get slightly better mileage, 4.88 puts you near the factory ratio, and 5.13 will give you more power.

So I'd say 4.88 at a minimum, but would suggest 5.13.

i had 4.88s in my hp d44 14 bolt combo with 37's and loved it!! any lower and i wouldnt have been able to keep my jeep at 75mph without blowing it up!! it sat at about 2500 rpms at 65mph. 3000 rpms at 75mph.

i'd say 5.13s are a little low for a dd rig that sees the highway a lot.....but remember, this is my opinion.

With stock axles you can't even go that low. As low as you can go are 4.88's.

I guess you miss the swapping out of the stock axles in the first post.

The 4.0L will run all day at 2950-3000rpms and love it. I use to drive back and forth to Florida from upstate NY with 33's and 4.56's gears at 85-90mph all for hours on end up and down I95. Would be spinning around 2800-3000 rpms and actually would get roughly 425 miles out of a tank on average.

I would definitely step up to 5.13's..........you never know if 37's will ever be big enough. Plus once you start adding armor and gear.....your drivetrain will be happier.

I have 36's with auto and OD i swapped in a 60 and 5.38's and it runs just fine it gets up and moves and cruises at whatever speed i want. 75 is about as far as i push anymore cuz its a long way to the ground if a tire issue would arise. It runs between 2500 to 3000 max depending on the speed. Wish i would have done it sooner.

5.13's definitely. maybe even 5.38. I have 4.88 and 35's and I would run 5.13's in a heartbeat with them. highway 75 at like 2800.
when I go to a similar setup and 37's I will run 5.38's.

gear it to the max, when was the last time you heard someone complain about gearing too deep? With 37s youre going to want the extra juice anyway

x2
5.38s would be great, or even 5.86s if they are available for the 44/60 combo. Cause you never know if 40s will be next upgrade.
