Well it allows your tires to spin faster and you can get up to speed quicker, it really depends on how much of a ratio change your going with and your tire size of how much it will affect gas mileage

I plan on running 33's with a 4.5 inch lift with a Dana 44 in the rear. manual trans.
not sure what I'll have to have to do about the front axle/gears either.
but that means I'll need a 4.10 or 4.58 ratio in the rear?
its all so confusing for someone who knows nothing about cars but loves wheeling.

and I dont really have to change my gears if I dont want to?
but if I dont I wont have enough power and my rig will be useless anyway?
and still, does it affect fuel efficiency. gotta remain a DD as well

with the manual transmission i would go 4.10's on 33's.it will be a little overgeared, but fuel economy should be decent and you will love the extra power it has

the front and rear gear ratios have to match if you ever plan to put it in 4wd.

thats what I was hoping to hear. thanks for good feedback.
are we talking like 15mpg? or more like 10. ha
and if the gears have to match, what should I upgrade the front axle to?
I plan on putting an air locker in way down the road.
or can I get away with keeping it stock.
