Gauge lights won't work? Wtf

Gauge lights won't work? Wtf
Ok so I swapped out the gauge lights with new 74 bulbs on my 98 cherokee. Put the dash back together and the center bulb wasn't working (bad connection of the light socket). Pulled it back apart and fixed the socket. Before I put the gauge cluster back in I tested the light circuit with 12v power and ground through the terminals on the back of the cluster and the all worked fine. Reinstalled it and they wouldn't light up at all now. Checked all the fuses (all good) even replaced the headlight switch. Still no gauge lights, but ac controls and radio lights still work as well as the brake lights and all marker lights. Got me a lil stumped! I know it's probably a short n the harness but didn't no if anyone has had any similar problems. Thanks
