Default Fuel injector O-rings

This is a repost of something I put in Ask A Question because I realize it's not exactly OEM Tech lol.

I'm trying to get Ford X2FE-C4B injectors into my '99. At NAPA I bought O-rings for the Ford Whateverstar they came out of. They seat fine into the fuel rail but the intake manifold is a real pain in the ***... I'm afraid I might break the injectors getting them in. Are these universal injector O-rings and I'm just a nub or should I have bought rings for the XJ?

I'm lubricating with engine oil. I've heard something about using gasoline. Would letting the rings soak in gas help any?

Soaking in gas makes them swell. I lube them with gear oil and put them in the rail first since that's where it's hardest. Then just start at the rear and work your way forward popping them in one at a time into the intake until the rail is seated.

I use vaseline on the oring with no problems. Did you get that pack of 12 with the install cone? Mostly all fuel inector orings are the same. I've even when to chase or ace and have gotten the one in the plumbing that are the exactly same size for $.20 vs 6 bucks with no problems what so ever and drive it daily.

I bought NAPA Echelin brand, 6 pairs of 'em. No problems at all getting them on the injectors. Originally I had gone the rail-first approach but I can't get them into the intake. It looks like the rail is warping and I don't really want to try using a rubber mallet.

Swelling I take it is not a good thing in this case? I was thinking soaking up fuel might make them more malleable. I don't have any Vaseline here so I'll go out and grab some.

Okay so I forgot Vaseline but I swung by PartSource on the way home and got some BWD O-rings. MUCH better fit!

Let them soak in 5w30 for a little while. Not sure if that effected the material but they went on easily enough.

For reference these are the rings NAPA gave me for the injector's OE application, a Ford Freestar with 3.9L V6. They fit very loosely and should not be trusted. Very disappointing for the Echlin brand.

Hopefully this will help someone else with X2FE-C4B injectors.
