front shocks in the rear? ok or no?
So I'm in the market for new shocks.
Fox shocks with reservoirs preferred. adjustable in the front for sure. ( still questioning adjustables in the rear )
now my question is, since fox doesnt make rese shocks for the rear of a jeep cherokee. can i just use front shocks in the rear?
i would get the ones for 5-6" lift in the front ( 29.25" extended 17.75" collapsed )
and the ones for a 4-5" lift in the rear ( 25.25" extended 15.5" collapsed )
so the 2 questions are
1. can i use front shocks in the rear ( not worried bout stem or eye mounts, i can figure that out later, just wondering if valving is different. )
2. and should i get adjustable reservoir shocks for the rear? or go with the non-adjustable and save 150-200$ ( not all the concerned on money, id rather not regret my choice. )

You can buy shocks based on what valving and length you want. I generally stay away from "application specific" shocks
and how you are going to make a stem shock work in the rear is beyond me. I would just get a shock that will work.

What are you planning on doing with it or is it for looks ? And I did the billstein with res up front and fox in the rear without res and it works great for a lot cheaper

MY 2c, If you are stuck on Fox, wait until you have a rear coil conversion or something where such an expensive shock is warranted. While retaining leaf springs in the back, I doubt the advantage to such a shock would hardly even be noticeable.

Stem shock in rear would just require a welded box that uses the stock mounts and has a hole for the stem.. But that won't be necessary anyways.
I am slowly but surely going 4 link rear first then probly 3 link up front.
Don't plan on increasing height I like my 35s and 5.5in lift. Pretty much maxed out for a dd Imo.
And my shocks are leaking a bit. Not a lot but there's moisture building up on the sides.
Soo shocks are first. And bilsteins aren't adjustable. That's why I'm going for fox.
I want adjustable because it's a dd that's also gonna do the Rubicon and many other trails. So I'd like to be able to adjust back and forth.
Ianf406 you make a good point about leafs restricting the actual usage of the upgrade
So maybe ill just go for some bilsteins in the rear..? And then when I go 4 link coil conversion with ford9in ill go for the fox rese's

i dont think you fully understand the purpose of these shocks
whether or not you will feel the benefit depends on the kind of driving you do, not the type of spring.
for instance you probably wont feel the difference as much if you are crawling because the suspension cycles much slower, but while driving fast in the desert you will definitely feel that your shocks are no longer losing their effectiveness.
the adjuster helps because it means you can fine tune the compression valving of the shock on the fly, without having to rebuild them.
if you dont think the rear leafs will benefit from better shocks, take out your current shocks and go wheeling, then report back.

Ive never seen the need for an adjustable shock. I ran non- adjustable foa's valved fairly stiff, the ride on the street was fine without any jostling around, it was nice offroad in the slow stuff, and could take high speed hits and landings as well as the rest of the xj could.
