Default front locker questions

Hi Guys,
My Cherokee has (unfortunately) a d35 rearend, and you folks have scared me out of locking that. My Jeep is a daily driver that sees a lot of ice and snow. Most of my off-roading is searching for tough to reach fishing spots and camping spots where I don't have to listen to someone elses generator,t.v., stereo, etc...
Searching these posts has me considering a lunchbox locker in the front dana30. Any drawbacks to this? Will a front locker make the steering hard to handle or squirrely off road. Specific locker suggestions would also be appreciated by this helpless noob. Trout season is coming fast.
My 97 2door has a 3 inch RC lift and she's getting 31's soon!

Thanks for your help in advance

Not really much of a problem with it but on road there would be a clicking whenever you make turns.

I have also heard with lunch box lockers there can be uneven tire wear.

This guy was pretty much in the same situation and gives a good write-up.

If it were me and there were a lot of trees where I live I would get a tow strap and a come along so that if you do get stuck you can just winch yourself out. Or I guess you could get a winch but I personally don't like the look or the price so I got a come along.

Not sure if that is what you were looking for but I hope this helps.

lunchbox lockers will have no ill effects whatsoever on daily driving habits. while your in 2wd, and driving down the road you can't even tell its in there. it does not click, it does not make the tires chirp, it does not make the tires wear uneven, it does nothing.

i run an aussie locker upfront myself, but there are other brands such as powetraxx, spartan, and lock-rite

^What he said, if it's in the front you won't notice it in 2wd. But when you're in 4wd driving on snowy roads, its going to want to understeer a lot more.

I love my Aussie. It dramatically improved my climbing ability. It was a pretty straight forward install, although I lost a spring, so it ended up being a two day endeavor. And for the price you can't really go wrong...
