Front locker question
Was looking into buying a front locker and was wondering if there is any way of telling the spline count on the axel shaft without pulling them out and actually counting them. I'm looking at buying a sparton locker they have a 27 spline, 29 spline or 30 spline. Don't know which one to get I have a 98 cherokee with a Dana 30. Thanks

when i did my front locker, i didn't have to worry about spline count.
i just bought a locker for a d30 and had it in within an hour.
ok, maybe a bit longer as the ring gear needs to come off.
but i don't think spline count matters... even tho they're 27 spline.

I think it does because I'm just replacing the spiders with a sparton locker or a Aussie locker I'm not pulling the carrier out or touching the ring gear. But u say that it's a 27 spline?

if you order the locker for a jeep xj, they all had 27 spline shafts.
and yes, i had to remove the carrier and ring gear to get the lock-rite in where the spiders were.
the gear is too thick to get the roll pin out.

I ground the corner of one tooth on the ring gear so the pin slides off.
Doesn't hurt a thing, only will take a minute.
Then you only need to pull the short side axle out to do everything.

Because with stock ratios you can just barely squeeze the pin out with some grinding . But with 4.10's and over, not so much
