Default front drive shaft for sye question.

before you guys tell to do research, done that already and still haven't found my answer yet. im doing sye for my '98 xj, I plan to use the front ds off another xj. already have the front ds that I picked up from the jy about a year ago. I cant remember if the ds is from a high or low pinion D30 or D35 or C8.25. I know for sure the ds from 97-01 xj. my question is does it matter ^^^^

All front shafts for auto xjs are the same. I ran one for a few months with a full sye to a dana 35 and it was too short. Too much spline showing and it would spin out of round. Hack and tap syes yield more length so that would be fine. I vaguely remember seeing somewhere that a c8.25 pinion sits closer to the tcase but I'm not sure. I had to pull a grand cherokee front shaft that was 33in long (longest front shaft on any cherokee/grand...took forever to find).

Correct, any automatic with an np231 will work. I did an actual SYE on mine and I have the c8.25. I still have an inch left on the spline and I still need to get rid of the tcase drop and put some shims in. It works, I just still have vibes at certain speeds. I have 5inches of lift in the rear btw.

I run an auto front drive shaft in the rear with a Advanced Adapters SYE, no issues. I ran the longer ZJ shaft before and had vibes, but it was from a junk yard and was pretty clapped out.

Even if you get a junkyard shaft you should still take it to a driveline shop and get it balanced and get new yokes and u-joints. Fix it right or fix it twice.

This is true, live and learn, I tortured my self shimming and reshimming to get rid of a drive line vibe that I didnt have in the first place. If I had to do it again I would spend the money for a new driveshaft. I traded some junk I had laying around for another front shaft and popped it in kind of on a whim and poof vibes where gone.

True that. I rebuilt mine as well. Kinda figured it should happen for an item providing all the power to move our bricks. Polished up the shaft and painted it, new ujoints and new center ball yoke. $90 from dennysdriveshafts for all that stuff. Although after I adjust the angles I will get the shaft balanced as well.

thank you guys that answer my question now. I kinda thought all 4wd auto np321 are same but wasn't quite sure. had someone told me they different between high and low pinion that's why I come to you guys for second opinions. I'm going to have the shop do the sye and it will have all new u joints.
