Default Front D44 Axle

I'm looking to buy a Dana 44 front axle from a 87-89 XJ from a JY and install new shafts. I'm under the impression that if I leave the stock axles in there that there is a good possibility that I can snap them.

My setup is going to be about 400-420 HP at the crank (super-stroker) with 4.10's and 33x12.50's. I'll have a TruTrac LSD in the front as well.

I'm trying to circumvent paying $2500 ( )for a fully built G2 axle at Quadratec which would be the exact build I was looking for.

I'm having a hard time finding ANY place that sells D44 axles (stock or chromoly) for this particular axle.

I'm looking for recommendations. Anything to keep me from having to buy a 2500 ( ) axle assembly.

there is no d44 front axle that you will find to pull from the jy since they all are d 30s thats off an xj. you would need to find a waggy 44 and also need some fabrication skills since it doesnt directly bolt on. aldo dont i wouldnt do a lsd in the front... should just got with a select locker

I've already done the research on the lockers and made my final decision with the TruTrac.

I am an idiot. It was the rear axle that was a D44 in some of those model years.

So with the SJ D44, are those vacuum disconnected?

My dad's good at fabrication and he'll be handling the tooling for me while I'm away.

if you can find a wrecked rubicon tj, you can get a bolt in front 44.

the rubicon 44s were just the dif casing from a 44. the axle shafts and tubes and knuckles are the same as the 30. its a 44/30 combo axle. you can get a direct bolt in 44 from a waggy in the rear but most people for for the FORD 8.8 rear out of a 96+ explorer. it is the same width almost as the xj and it has the same bolt patter. and is stronger than a 44 other than the fact that it is a c-clip design so try and not break an axle shaft(your wheel will slide out) there is a kit thats gets rid of the c-clip design for like $600 or something. otherwise the ford 8.8 is a great axle and all you need is new spring perches and shock mounts. as for the front axle i would look for a d44! the waggy d44 takes the least fab work. but are VERY hard to find. try to pick up a used d44 from a rock crawler guy. they are always upgrading from their d44s to d60s. you could possibly get that g2 d44 you were talking about for a lot cheaper that way.

lets here some more info on this jeep your building!!! i love the stroker idea! v8s belong in trucks. there is some hidden power in the 4.0

Well since you're interested in the build up I have a link detailing my plans for it, which WILL be happening in the next 6 months. Even though I won't be around to do of it since I'm in Afghanistan.

I have a link for it here, and it is Legen---wait for it...--dary.

I'm about to make some changes to it. That HESCO head isn't going in there.

I like the idea of a supercharged inline 6 because V8's are just too common, and more work than stroking and supercharging. Doesn't yeild as much torque either. This thing is going to be a professional zombie-apocalypse survivor when I'm done. And if emissions restricts me from driving it in the future, it's going to be a full time toy.

If you are talking about the rear XJ axle.

A bullet proof way to build it is to do a 33 or 35 spline upgrade. Alloy usa/Ten factory/Nitor gear all make 30 spline d44 stuff, but you can find the other stuff with some research.

DO your researc, Search over on Pirate. Lots of valueable info. Also dont be afraid at looking at custom housings like Diamonds/Curries or rock assault.

Just an FYI for everybody, Jeep did put a front Dana 44 in the front of XJ's. But they only for exports (south american) XJ's, Currie at one time imported a ton of them somehow. No idea of the current availbility and such today, but every once in a while you see one pop-up in some random classified.

They were basically a HP version of the TJ/LJ Rubicon Dana 44 housing. All your Dana 3o stuff minus gears, diff and inner shafts bolt-up.
