front coil spring swap

hi, i feel like this is answered somewhere but i couldnt find it. i have heard of people using ZJ springs and f150 springs i was wondering if there were any other coils that i can use on my XJ for a lift. and how much lift do ZJ springs give? thank you.

anyone know pros n cons of ford and ZJ springs. ford gives u more lift.. but i hear the ride is horrible. how do ZJ's ride?

The zj coils feel like stock for the most part and th f150 coils are stiff but not objectionably so. Its more like a quick return to center. I ran f150 coils on 2 of my xjs and never found them to be annoyingly harsh.

letsgomuddin, so would u recomend f150 springs? it give u about 3 inches lift?

letsgomuddin Feb 28, 2013 12:47 PM

The f150 coils are not a perfect fit. You have to cut part of the top of the spring off and the coil will rub the c's on your axle but other than that if you are on a tight budget get them if not get 3" coils. They give about 2.5" in my experience.

ok, would you take the f150 springs over v8 ZJ springs + 2in spacers?

howie-14 Feb 28, 2013 09:05 PM

how much lift are you trying to get

lildoggie Feb 28, 2013 09:58 PM

id like 4 inch, cuz im doing shackels and s10 bastard in rear that will give me about 4.

lildoggie Feb 28, 2013 09:59 PM

howie-14 doesnt have to be exactly 4, just in that ball park.

howie-14 Feb 28, 2013 10:06 PM

well you will need a adjustable trackbar and longer brake lines for anything over 3" and you will prob need lower control arms as well

howie-14 Feb 28, 2013 10:11 PM

you also might wana consider a SYE or Hack-n-tap . and u might need shims to get your pinion angle correct

lildoggie Feb 28, 2013 11:09 PM

howie-14, so at that expense prolly best to stay under 3in? and if i were to go high i shud get a kit from rusty's or rough country. that kind of thing?

howie-14 Feb 28, 2013 11:18 PM

check out serious offroad they have great prices on rubicon express lifts i just orderd from them and they are great
